Volketswil (Switzerland), 21 Sept 2021 - Supply chain execution specialist, Zetes has supplied a new estate of handheld terminals to the Swiss Coop Group across more than 2,200 sales outlets. The estate comprises 10,000 Zebra PS20 personal shoppers for customers and 13,500 Datalogic Memor20 mobile computers for store employees. The aim was to replace the ageing device pool, previously supplied by Zetes, to ensure efficient, seamless operations within the stores.

The Coop Cooperative is one of the largest retail and wholesale companies in Switzerland. With around 2.5 million members and almost 91,000 employees, the Coop Group is organized as a cooperative,  generating CHF 30.2 billion in total sales in 2020. Zetes has been a Coop hardware partner since 2009 and had already supplied the previous solutions, which will be gradually replaced with the new terminals.

The Datalogic handhelds in smartphone format will be deployed to shopfloor staff in the supermarkets, enabling the accurate maintaining of shelf and warehouse stock levels. The full-touch handhelds with the Android operating system have a powerful 2D megapixel scan engine with which all product barcodes can be scanned quickly. This enables employees to have instant, real-time access to stock levels and make adjustments where necessary.

The Zebra PS20 compact personal shoppers serve as personal assistants for Coops instore customers. Barcodes of items are scanned as they are placed in the shopping cart without the need for the device to be removed from its shopping cart cradle. The Android devices have interactive apps that display additional product information or relevant shopping recommendations.

Improve store process

Integral to the service agreement, Zetes will take on the full handling and staging of the entire estate, ensuring that the latest operating system and firmware versions are fully up to date. For Datalogic's mobile computer, Coop also uses the Zetes TotalCare service platform, a web-based solution for managing mobile devices, including maintenance and repair.

"I was thrilled by the smooth and precise roll-out of 13,500 Memor and the parallel delivery of 10,000 PS20" explains August Harder, who is responsible for IT at Coop Switzerland. He particularly likes "that Zetes was able to deliver the new mobile computer Datalogic Memor 20 in large numbers, even though it was only presented shortly before the start of the project."
