Three-phase approach to full traceability at Henderson
Full traceability for Henderson across entire supply chain
The food and grocery distribution group Henderson faced a number of supply chain optimisation issues before updating its manual picking processes. In just three years’ time, Zetes has implemented real-time systems to control every stage of the supply chain, from goods receipt to picking to the final delivery of groceries to independent retailers.
Shelf-to-shelf-edge traceability
In order to maintain its reputation for superior quality, service and value for money, Hendersons turned to Zetes for the strategic implementation of several technologies aimed at achieving full shelf-to-shelf-edge visibility of goods in their supply chain. Zetes’ three phase approach included voice-activated order picking, the Medea light touch WMS solution for enhanced quality control and an advanced electronic proof of delivery solution.
A long list of improvements
The new systems’ significant return on investment became apparent after just 2 months. Among the long list of improvements, Henderson now profits from:
- a reduction in errors from 1 in every 1000 to 1 in every 10 000
- dramatic improvements in productivity
- enhanced quality control including freshness, weight and temperature checks
- full shelf-to-shelf-edge traceability of all goods
- a 50% reduction in shrinkage
- £175,000 savings via improved stock management and delivery tracking
- halved operator training times
- high employee engagement and satisfaction
- reduced employee turnover and associated costs
Intelligent application software
The use of Zetes’ own 3iV voice application software has enabled Hendersons to greatly improve system accuracy and, in particular, overcome the problem of pickers entering digit check codes based on memory. Unlike other systems, 3iV supports the use of 4 digit codes and reverse coding which eliminates the possibility of introducing errors into the system.
